An extremely rare and highly sought after untreated Contra Luz Fire Opal from the Magdalena Mine in Mexico. These pictures are not capturing the optical properties of this special opal very well. It looks much better in person. Contra Luz Opal has a unique play of color that best shows its color flash by letting light shine through the opal rather than reflect off its surfaces. This property is caused by the inclusion of rutile that has melted into the opal. Rutile refracts light very intensley and creates this effect.
